Mark Riggleman selected as the next Executive Director of the International Music Foundation

The Board of Directors of the International Music Foundation has unanimously approved the hire of Mark Riggleman as the organization’s next Executive Director. Mark brings more than 30 years of successful nonprofit leadership experience at several formidable music institutions, and is himself an accomplished pianist who has performed across the country and served on the faculty at The Juilliard School.

Mark most recently served as the Director of Education at Lyric Opera of Chicago, where he led Lyric’s education initiatives, reaching more than 100,000 Chicago-area children and adults annually. Previously, he held positions of note at The Juilliard School, the 92nd Street Y and the Judith G. Wharton Music Center. While at Juilliard, he managed a student performance fellowship program and served as faculty member of a program for under-served students. At the 92nd Street Y, he led the music school through a period of significant growth and partnered with external organizations to increase the school’s visibility.

Mark believes that his experience as a musician and arts administrator gives him a unique ability to interact with musicians meaningfully, stating,

“Through my experiences, both as a performer and as an arts leader, I’ve seen first-hand how music nourishes the soul, inspires creativity and plays an integral role in the healing process. IMF’s mission to make great music accessible to all and to provide learning opportunities to deepen the experience is what has been at the core of my passion and work throughout my entire career.”

The International Music Foundation’s current Executive Director, Ann Murray, is retiring after 26 years of outstanding leadership. “I look forward to passing the IMF baton into Mark’s capable hands at the Myra Hess concert on October 18 and am delighted with the Board’s choice of successor. It will be a pleasure to watch from a seat in our many audiences as Mark leads the IMF onward and upward into a bright future”, Ann Murray affirms.

IMF’s Board of Directors retained Alford Executive Search, a division of KEES, as its executive search partner in the Spring of 2017. A national search was launched, seeking candidates from all areas of musical and nonprofit leadership. The Search Committee, led by Gregg Simon of Much Shelist, selected Mark from a strong pool of top finalists.

“Mark quickly rose to the top of a national pool of candidates, and with every step in the process, it became more apparent that his leadership and passion for IMF’s mission and programs was the ideal fit for the organization,” says Heather Eddy, President and CEO of Alford Executive Search, a division of KEES.
